EducAtion

When a parent sends their child to school, whether to preschool, K-12, or college, they want to know that their child is safe and in an environment conducive to learning. An educational facility must be user friendly and take into consideration the needs of both the students and the faculty. Funding is also a major consideration for educational facilities. Budgets are usually tight. It is important that the building, renovation or expansion of an educational facility be economical as to not impede on funding for facilitating learning. S & F Engineers, Inc. has experience working with the South Florida School Boards creating such facilities.

S & F Engineers, Inc. designed a new two story 32,000 sq. ft. building to house offices, computer equipment and classrooms on the main campus of Florida Atlantic University. Existing underground data and power conduits added to the challenge of designing foundations for the new building. The project also included renovation of the existing single story computer center. The center remained operational during construction.

Classroom & Media Center

When American Heritage School wanted a functional and economical design for its new state-of-the-art computing and media center S & F Engineers, Inc. was the architect’s first choice. The single story building featured few interior columns to allow flexible use of the space. The project also used masonry walls and steel joists. Wood framing, in conjunction with structural steel, was used at the exterior walkways to achieve the same appearance as existing buildings on the campus.

12 Classroom Addition

Economical designs and responsive services in previous projects led the architect for the American Heritage School to choose S & F again for structural engineering services for this classroom building addition. This addition featured entry area roofs with wood framing to match the campus’ traditional look. Other structural framing consisted of masonry walls for the exterior enclosure and steel joists. Our relationship with the American Heritage School continues with a Dining/Multi-Purpose Building and a Fine Arts Building projects underway.
